Verdence Capital Advisors Welcomes Michael Harris to Lead its Multi-Family Office Division

Harris brings 20+ years of experience in finance and investing; will spearhead firm’s initiative to deliver industry-leading service to family office clients

Baltimore, MD- August 10, 2020 – Verdence Capital Advisors (“Verdence”), a nationally-recognized private wealth advisory and multi-family office firm, today announced that Michael Harris has joined the firm as Director of Family Office, Partner.

In this new role, Mike will lead the growth and enhanced offerings for the firm’s fast-growing class of family office clients.

Prior to joining Verdence, Mr. Harris spent almost two decades at Campbell & Company LP, a multi-billion-dollar hedge fund where he most recently held the title of President. His leadership responsibilities included co-running the firm’s quantitative multi-strategy hedge fund, firm-wide executive management and strategic planning. Additionally, he recently served on the Board of Directors for the Managed Funds Association (MFA).

Before being appointed President of Campbell & Company, Mr. Harris managed the firm’s trading operations, which included global execution of all financial futures, commodities, cash equities and foreign exchange. He joined Campbell & Company in 2000 as a European markets trader, and prior to that held roles with Refco Inc. and Morgan Stanley Managed Futures.

“From my first conversation with Mike, I knew he was exactly the type of professional that would fit perfectly into our culture. It was clear that he would embrace our collaborative environment,” said Leo Kelly, CEO and Founder of Verdence Capital Advisors. “We could not be more excited to have him join as we continue to build out our offerings for family office clients and make Verdence the number one destination for families considering their next move as they look for assistance in building sustainable, impactful wealth strategies.”

Verdence offers a comprehensive suite of services for family office clients, including family governance, transition planning, philanthropic strategy, concierge services, advisor analysis, and much more. And in all dealings with family office clients, as with any Verdence client, the firm stresses communication, full disclosure, education and transparency.

“Even if we currently found ourselves in ‘normal’ conditions, we would still be embarking on a period that will see the greatest generational transfer of wealth in history,” said Mr. Harris. “Add to that the unprecedented events of the past several months and the litany of questions they raised for so many families, and it’s no wonder that many are embracing the multi-family office model. But not all family offices are created equal, and the approach that Verdence has pioneered, leading with transparency and education, is one that is already resonating widely, and I could not be more excited to be joining the team and helping to drive the next wave of growth.”

Passionate about education and giving back to his community, particularly in his home city of Baltimore, Mr. Harris serves as a guest professor and lectures to undergraduate and graduate students at numerous local colleges and universities on alternative investments, hedge funds, global economic trends, financial market trading, and more. He is also the Founder and President of a non-profit organization called the Carson Harris Foundation (CHF), which is named after his daughter, who was diagnosed at five months of age with a rare form of epilepsy. CHF raises awareness around the issues faced by those affected with epilepsy and raises funds to support clinical and research efforts to better diagnose and treat those with epilepsy.

Mr. Harris earned a B.A. with Honors in Economics and Japanese Studies from Gettysburg College and also studied abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan.
